The Underground King

"You came at just the right time, Mercer!" Magnus bared his teeth, his eyes locking onto the older billionaire who had just entered the grand hall. The Thorne patriarch jabbed a finger in the air, a sneer curling his lips. "Take your foolish daughter and get out of here. I am putting this boy in the ground today, and nobody in this city is going to stop me!"

Robert did not even spare Magnus a passing glance. He adjusted his tailored suit jacket, walked straight past the furious Thorne patriarch with measured steps, and stopped dead in front of Torin. Under the stunned, wide-eyed gazes of the wealthy crowd, the powerful head of the Mercer family dipped into a deep, respectful bow.

"Mr. Voss," Robert said, his voice echoing clearly in the sudden, tense silence. "I am sorry for the terrible, offensive experience you are enduring under my roof. Please accept my apologies."

A collective gasp rippled through the gathered socialites and business elites. They exchanged bewildered looks, unable to comprehend why a titan of industry would bow his head to a nameless, unadorned youth.

Torin remained seated, resting his hands casually on his lap. A relaxed, easy smile touched his lips. "It is of no matter, Mr. Mercer. The Thorne family is insignificant. They cannot do a single thing to harm me." His words dripped with a quiet but undeniable confidence, infuriating the Thorne patriarch further.

Magnus's face twisted into an ugly, contorted snarl. The blatant disrespect from the kid burned through whatever rational thought he had left. His authority was being challenged in front of the city's elite. "You think you can insult my family and walk out of here breathing?" He whipped around to face his elite bodyguards, his voice rising to a fever pitch. "One million dollars in cash! The first man to snap his neck gets the money right now!"

The bodyguards' eyes lit up with sudden, feral greed. They shifted their stances, cracking their knuckles and drawing combat knives, preparing to lunge across the banquet room.

"Who dares make a move in my house?!" Robert roared at the top of his lungs, his voice booming over the rising tension. He stepped beside Torin, squaring his shoulders to shield the youth. "You seem to forget where you are standing, Magnus. This is sovereign Mercer territory!"

As if answering his booming command, a flood of heavy footsteps thundered down the exterior corridors. Dozens of armed Mercer security guards poured into the banquet hall from every entrance, wielding solid steel batons. They rushed forward, forming a tight, impenetrable defensive perimeter around Robert, Genevieve, and Torin.

The Mercer butler jogged up to Robert, wiping sweat from his brow. "Sir, I have conveyed your orders. The security teams from the outer estates are en route. The main compound guards will be here any minute to secure the premises."

Robert nodded, his gaze locked in a fierce staredown with the Thorne forces.

Magnus glared at his rival, his chest heaving with suppressed rage. His men were outnumbered now, surrounded by hostile guards on all sides. "Are you insane, Robert? Are you really going to start a massive, bloody corporate war between our families over some kid? The collateral damage will ruin us both!"

"If you stubbornly insist on targeting Mr. Voss, I do not mind fighting the Thorne family to the bitter end," Robert proclaimed fearlessly. His tone brooked no argument, unyielding as solid rock.

The gathered guests scrambled further back toward the walls, whispering in a panic. A physical clash between Oakhaven's two titan families would reshape the city's entire landscape. It would be a slaughter.

Magnus flushed a deep, angry red. Realizing the devastating reality of the physical standoff on enemy turf, sheer desperation took hold. His bruised ego demanded blood, and he refused to walk away looking like a coward. He pointed a trembling finger at Robert, deciding to play his ultimate, most terrifying trump card.

"You forced my hand, Robert! You leave me no choice!" Magnus spat, a cruel smirk breaking through his anger. "But you forgot one crucial detail. Dante Carver currently owes my family a favor!"

The mere utterance of that specific name sucked the air straight out of the room. A paralyzing chill swept over the crowd. The wealthy socialites and business moguls turned white, their eyes wide with sheer terror.

Dante Carver. The underground king of Oakhaven. The ruthless, bloodthirsty leader of the secretive Aegis Regiment. He was a man who commanded the shadows, someone nobody in the city ever dared to offend. To offend the Grim Reaper was a mistake; to offend the Aegis Regiment was a guaranteed death sentence.

Robert's confident posture crumbled. The color drained from his weathered face, replaced by a wash of undeniable panic. His hands clenched into tight fists as the terrifying reality of the threat set in.

Magnus laughed, a harsh, triumphant sound that echoed through the hall. "Look at you! You know what this means. I will give you one last generous chance, Robert. Take your men and flee the premises before the massacre begins. Leave the boy, and I will pretend this interference never happened."

Robert's jaw tightened. He glanced at Torin, wavering for a fraction of a second. The Carver name carried an unbearable weight.

"You should simply leave the room, Mr. Mercer," Torin said softly, his calm voice cutting through the rising panic. He did not look worried in the slightest. "Take your daughter and your men. I will easily handle my own minor problems."

Robert gritted his teeth, shaking his head. He looked at Torin, remembering the medical miracle that had saved his life when all hope was lost. "You saved me, Mr. Voss. I refuse to abandon you. Neither Dante nor Magnus will dare kill me outright."

He leaned close to his daughter. "Genevieve," he whispered desperate instructions. "The exact moment chaos erupts, you grab Mr. Voss. Flee to the secured secret chamber within the hotel. Do not come out until it is safe. I will stay behind to defend his escape route to the bitter end."

"Dad, no," Genevieve pleaded, clutching his sleeve. Her hands shook, but she stood her ground, refusing to step away from Torin, her loyalty overriding her paralyzing fear.

Seeing the steely, unbreakable determination in Robert's eyes, Magnus lost his mind. "Fine! Die with him!" He yanked his phone from his pocket and called Dante Carver. To see a single twenty-year-old youth dead, Magnus cashed in a generation-old, precious family favor. A favor born from a rainy night decades ago when his father sheltered a young Dante. He put the phone to his ear, his eyes burning with triumphant malice.

The call connected. Magnus spoke briefly, his voice shaking with adrenaline. He hung up and glared at his enemies, waiting for the inevitable executioner.

The wait was excruciating. Minutes stretched like hours, the silence in the room heavy and suffocating.

Then, the ground began to vibrate.

Mere moments later, thunderous footsteps echoed through the hotel corridors, sounding like an approaching military brigade. Guests peered through the grand windows and gasped in horror. Hundreds of terrifying, machete-wielding men clad in pristine black suits swarmed the hotel perimeter. Steel blades glinted menacingly under the streetlights. They surrounded the entire building, a sea of undeniable power cutting off all avenues of escape.

The heavy, mahogany doors of the banquet hall burst open with a deafening crash, the wood splintering from the force. Twenty incredibly burly, scarred men marched inside. Their synchronized steps shook the floorboards. They moved with military precision, quickly forming two crisp, disciplined lines leading from the entrance to the center of the room.

"Welcome, Mr. Carver!" their deep voices boomed in perfect unison. The sheer volume of the shout rattled the massive crystal chandelier hanging high above, sending glass prisms clinking against one another in a chaotic melody.

A middle-aged man stepped into the threshold. He wore a tailored suit, his expensive leather shoes gleaming brightly under the harsh banquet lights. Dante Carver strode slowly into the room. He did not need to shout. He did not need to brandish a weapon. His entire being exuded an oppressive, suffocatingly murderous aura that instantly silenced every breath in the hall.

The temperature in the room seemed to plummet. The guests pressed their backs against the walls, holding their breath, praying to blend into the shadows to escape his notice.

Magnus hurried forward, his previous arrogance vanishing as he bowed deferentially to greet the fearsome kingpin. "Mr. Carver."

Dante barely looked at him. His face was a mask of cold indifference. "I am busy today. Tell me quickly, who exactly do you want to kill?" his voice asked point-blank, devoid of any emotion or warmth.

Magnus raised his hand, his eyes burning with triumphant malice. He pointed directly at Torin, who still sat calmly in his chair amid the brewing storm. "Him."

Dante turned his head. His cold, dead gaze swept over the seemingly ordinary, slightly thin young man. He saw no visible weapons. No martial stance. Nothing that warranted calling in a blood debt of this magnitude.

Dante began to approach slowly. The rhythmic click of his leather shoes sounded like a countdown to execution.

The pressure in the air multiplied with every step he took. Robert and Genevieve stood directly in his path. Their bodies trembled under the crushing pressure of Dante's murderous aura, but they bravely stood their ground. They kept their bodies planted firmly in front of Torin, acting as a physical shield against the impending violence.

Dante stopped a few feet away. He looked at the billionaire and his daughter with a deep, terrifying scowl.

"Buzz off!" Dante ordered. The two words carried a suffocating weight. The air grew thin. Robert gasped, struggling to draw clean oxygen into his lungs. Genevieve swayed, her face devoid of blood, but she bit her lip and stayed put.

Torin watched the exchange. A flicker of appreciation crossed his eyes for the Mercers' unwavering loyalty. He gently reached out, his hands firm as they settled onto Robert and Genevieve's shaking shoulders.

"Please step aside, Mr. and Ms. Mercer," Torin said softly. His voice remained a beacon of unshakable calm amidst the overwhelming dread. "I will handle my matters by myself."

Pushing the shocked billionaires gently but firmly aside, Torin rose from his chair. The oppressive aura that had paralyzed the entire room seemed to break against him like water against a stone.

Torin took a steady, fearless step forward. He closed the distance, standing tall as he came face to face with the terrifying underground king.
