The sharp click of the door handle forcefully shattered the thick, suffocating tension inside the hospital room. A nurse pushed past the threshold, her sensible shoes squeaking against the polished linoleum. Her sharp eyes darted back and forth between the rumpled hospital bed and the towering man standing over me, instantly sensing the heavy, dangerous atmosphere hanging in the air.
