My hands gripped the blasted silk fabric of my gown, bunching it into two tight fists to hike the hem high up my thighs. The stilettos strapped to my feet twisted my ankles with every panicked step over the uneven stone path. I kicked them off, abandoning them in the dark grass, and kept running barefoot.
