I watched Kallira rub her temples as she finished reading another report, and I finally reached the point where I could not ignore how exhausted she looked. The investigation had consumed nearly every conversation in this house, and I decided it could wait for one evening.

She reached for another document before I quietly closed the folder with my hand. She looked up at me with surpri
