The image of Giselle lying unconscious in the hospital stayed with me throughout the drive back to the estate. Even after we arrived home, I refused to let another frightening day steal peace from the people I loved.

I stood quietly in the entrance hall while everyone settled back into their usual routines. The house felt calmer than the hospital, but I could still feel the weight ever
