Sienna's Way Out—Resignation

"Be a good girl, okay?" Declan murmured, his deep voice rumbling in the quiet space of his office. His large, warm hand rested gently on Fiona's head, smoothing her hair in a soothing, rhythmic motion.

Basking in the warm glow of his gentle reassurance, Fiona felt a massive swell of dark triumph rise in her chest. She kept her eyes cast downward, hiding the wicked gleam of victory that danced in her gaze. She knew exactly how to play this high-stakes game. Feigning absolute meekness was her greatest weapon, the perfect tool to securely bind his powerful heart to hers. Unlike the fierce and stubborn Sienna, Fiona understood the profound value of appearing small, helpless, and entirely fragile. She lacked the jaw-dropping beauty that usually captured a billionaire's attention, so she leaned heavily into her role as the damaged victim. She rested against his touch for just a moment longer before slowly pulling away. Slipping out of his office, she walked with practiced, delicate steps. As she navigated the carpeted hallway, a sinister smile stretched across her face. She was entirely convinced that Sienna was seconds away from being brutally fired.

The moment Fiona's slender figure vanished behind the heavy oak door, the tender demeanor on Declan’s face evaporated into thin air. His jaw tightened, and his expression hardened into a mask of pure, executive authority. The indulgent, protective boyfriend was gone; the ruthless president of Lumiere remained. He immediately reached for the sleek black phone on his mahogany desk and slammed his finger against the intercom button.

"Hello," Sienna answered. Her voice crackled through the speaker, tight and fiercely guarded.

"Come to my office at once," Declan demanded fiercely. He did not wait for a reply before slamming the receiver down, the sharp clack echoing through the room.

Down on the lower floor, Sienna took a long, steadying breath. She stared blankly at her computer monitor, steeling her nerves for an inevitable dismissal. She knew exactly how these corporate dynamics worked. The billionaire boss always protected his own. Pushing her chair back, she stood up and smoothed the wrinkles from her skirt. If she had to pack her desk and leave Lumiere today, she would do it with her head held high. She marched into the elevator and rode up to the top floor, stepping into the oppressive, heavy atmosphere of the executive suite.

She pushed the door open. Declan sat rigidly in his high-backed leather chair, radiating an intimidating aura that seemed to suck the oxygen right out of the room. He did not waste a single second.

"Explain yourself," he fiercely demanded. His dark, sharp eyes locked onto hers, interrogating her about the violent, public outburst that had just taken place in the design department.

Sienna narrowed her eyes, her blood boiling at his arrogant tone. She was already entirely certain he would blindly side with his manipulative girlfriend. Why should she bother laying out the facts when the judge had already reached a verdict? Instead of groveling or offering pitiful excuses, she stepped closer to his desk and challenged him head-on.

"Exactly who is Fiona to you?" she asked, her voice laced with unapologetic defiance.

Declan’s expression darkened instantly. He retorted sharply, his tone like cracked ice. "Have you forgotten your place, Sienna? You are merely my employee. You are the one who crossed the line today, and you should be the one answering my questions. Why did you want to hit her?"

Sienna curled her lip, standing her ground firmly under his punishing glare. "You saw what happened out there. I gave her a solid slap across the face. What kind of explanation do you expect me to give?"

"I want the reason," Declan pressed, leaning his broad shoulders forward. "Did you attack her simply because she threatened to file a formal complaint against you?"

"The matter is personal," Sienna declared fiercely. She refused to break eye contact, her chin tilted upward in defiance. "I admit that getting physical during company hours was a technical fault on my end. It was unprofessional. But make no mistake, she absolutely deserved it."

Declan stared at her, deeply conflicted. A bitter war raged inside his mind. On one side was his absolute belief that Fiona was the fragile, innocent woman he had traumatized five years ago in that dark hotel room. He owed her his lifelong protection. On the other side was his grandmother's ironclad mandate to protect the daughter of the man who had sacrificed his life for him. Sienna was that daughter. He was trapped between two heavy debts.

He let out a sharp breath, offering a tense, strained compromise. "If you are willing to admit your mistake right now, I promise to let you off the hook this one time."

Sienna scoffed loudly. The sound echoed harshly in the quiet office. Her jaw clenched so tight it sent sharp pains shooting up to her temples. She realized exactly what his offer meant. Admitting her mistake meant formally apologizing to Fiona. It meant bowing her head to the very woman who had stolen her dignity and manipulated her life.

"Admit my mistake?" Sienna repeated, her voice dripping with venom. "You mean apologize to Fiona?" She let out a dry, humorless laugh. "There is no way in hell I will ever do that."

"Sienna, this is an office, not a ring for you to settle your personal scores!" Declan shouted, his frustration finally boiling over. He found himself at the end of his rope trying to reason with her.

Sienna decided she had heard enough. She was ready to wash her hands of this toxic mess. "In that case, I offer my immediate resignation."

She turned on her heel, presenting her back to him, and marched toward the heavy oak door.

Declan's composure cracked wide open. The thought of her walking out of his building, severing her ties with him forever, sent a jolt of panic through his chest. "Stay right there!" he shouted, his voice booming off the glass walls.

Sienna froze in her tracks, her hand hovering inches from the brass handle. She refused to turn around and look at his face.

He refused to let her leave his sight or his company. "I am not terminating your employment," Declan gritted out grudgingly, forcing himself to calm down. "You can remain employed. But consider this a strict, heavy warning against any future violent incidents. Do you hear me? There will be no next time."

Sienna felt a sudden, massive wave of relief wash over her. Despite the current nightmare, she fiercely loved her design job. She loved the creative freedom and the sanctuary her desk provided. But as she stood there, she could not resist firing a final, parting shot at the man she deeply pitied for his utter blindness. She looked back over her shoulder, fixing her gaze on him.

"Fiona is not the kind-hearted angel you think she is," Sienna warned, her tone deadly serious. "I am sure you do not want to fall for one of her tricks one day. Keep your eyes wide open when you are around her."

"You are the one who resorted to violence today," Declan countered sharply, narrowing his eyes.

Sienna bit the inside of her cheek. She wanted to say more, to expose Fiona completely, but she knew it would fall on deaf ears. She pushed the door open and walked out, leaving the tension hanging thick in the air.

When Sienna returned to her desk on the eighth floor completely unscathed, the atmosphere shifted instantly. Her mere presence sparked wild, raging office gossip. Coworkers huddled in small groups, shooting her sideways glances and whispering rapidly behind their hands.

Her assistant, Stella, scurried over, looking incredibly nervous. She placed a fresh cup of coffee on Sienna's desk. "Miss Caldwell, are you sure you are alright?"

"I am fine," Sienna said, picking up her pencil and rubbing her aching forehead. She had lost all of her creative inspiration. "What are they whispering about out there?"

Stella hesitated, twisting her fingers together. "You should really just ignore their gossip."

"Tell me what they are saying," Sienna insisted.

Stella leaned in close. "The entire floor is speculating. They think you must have a powerful underworld backer to survive hitting the president's girlfriend. Some of them even say you are secretly President Hawthorne's mistress, and that is why that lady came down here to confront you."

Sienna stopped rubbing her temples. Disgusted at the mere, sickening thought of dating Fiona's oblivious boyfriend, she nearly laughed out loud. The idea was so repulsive it made her stomach turn. She pushed the thought away.

Shortly after, the department manager, Monica, summoned Sienna into her office. Sienna quietly endured a stern, tedious lecture about proper client handling and professional manners. Monica threatened to kick her out of the company herself if another incident occurred, regardless of Declan's ultimate decision. Sienna nodded blankly, choosing absolute silence over revealing the shameful, humiliating history of Room 808. Explaining the truth was simply not an option, and she was too ashamed to speak of the past.

She returned to her small office, feeling sour and deeply exhausted. The day had drained every ounce of her energy. Then, her phone rang, breaking the heavy silence.

Sienna picked it up. "Hello."

"Why do you sound so tired?" a familiar, warm male voice asked.

Her sour mood lifted instantly. It was her close friend and wealthy benefactor, Wesley Winslow. "I am tired indeed, Wesley. When are you coming back?"

"In a few more days, I guess," Wesley announced joyfully. "But I have some good news for you. There is an ultra-exclusive, high-end jewelry fair approaching soon, and I have officially added your name to my VIP invitation list. You will have a chance to explore all your favorite pieces."

Sienna gasped, sitting up straight in her chair. A rush of pure excitement swept through her body. "Really? That is awesome! When is it?"

"It will be held this Saturday evening at seven. It will probably run until nine. Do you have someone who can look after Milo for you?"

Thrilled by the golden opportunity to witness top-tier design masterpieces up close, Sienna eagerly agreed to attend. "Yes, I do. I can arrange for Warren to watch him. I would not miss this."

"Sure. Have fun. When I get back, I will treat you to a nice meal."

"No problem. I will be waiting!" Sienna hung up the phone with a wide smile. Wesley had been her safety net ever since she returned to the country, and this invitation was exactly the spark of joy she needed. She mentally prepared her schedule, eager for the weekend.

Meanwhile, inside her luxurious mansion across the city, Fiona aggressively pressed an ice pack to her throbbing cheek. The cold stung her skin, but it did nothing to cool the raging fire inside her. Her hatred festered like an open wound.

"I will never let this slide so easily, Sienna!" Fiona vowed aloud, her voice trembling with raw venom. Her face was her most prized asset, and Sienna had targeted it directly.

She tossed the ice pack aside and grabbed her iPad, angrily scrolling through the daily news. Suddenly, a celebrity’s post caught her eye. It was a photo showing off an invitation card to an upcoming high-class jewelry fair.

Desperate to cement her newly stolen place in the absolute zenith of high society, Fiona’s mind began to spin dangerously. She knew an event like that was heavily restricted and no place for someone with her background. But she possessed something better than an invitation. She wondered if she could leverage the Hawthorne family name as her golden ticket into the exclusive event. If she showed up on Declan’s arm, everyone would have to bow to her.
