Don't Need Someone Else to Raise My Son
Inside the ultra-exclusive private conference room of VX International Group, the heavy, suffocating silence was broken only by the sharp scratching of a fountain pen across thick parchment. A mysterious acquisition team stood like silent sentinels along the wood-paneled walls. At the center of the massive mahogany table, the former owner Zane wiped a bead of sweat from his temple and signed away his life’s work. The ten-billion-dollar acquisition contract was sealed, quietly transferring total ownership of the massive jewelry empire straight into the hands of Declan Hawthorne.
Outside the frosted glass doors, the corporate world remained oblivious to the seismic shift in power. A middle-aged executive in a tailored charcoal suit stepped out of the room, raising a phone to his ear.
"Young Master Declan," the executive reported, his voice low and reverent. "The acquisition has been successfully completed. You have officially become the president of VX International Jewelry Group."
"I got it," Declan’s magnetic voice drifted through the receiver, calm and chillingly indifferent.
Declan sat in the back of his sleek, black town car, watching the city skyline blur past the tinted windows. He had orchestrated this ruthless corporate buyout for one single reason: a promise to his grandmother. Agatha had demanded he visibly pursue Sienna Caldwell, and dropping ten billion dollars to become the woman's boss was a statement the old matriarch could not ignore.
Yet, beneath the aggressive corporate maneuver, a different motive churned in Declan’s mind. He wanted Sienna to see the sheer, crushing weight of his status and run the other way. He secretly hoped his overbearing wealth and imposing presence would force her to reject him outright. Every successful marriage required a foundation of mutual attraction, and he had no desire to chain himself to a loveless, forced arrangement just to pay off a blood debt. If he intimidated her enough, she would refuse his advances, sparing them both.
Blissfully unaware of the massive corporate maneuvers shifting above her head, Sienna focused on building the new life she had fought so hard to reclaim. The morning sun painted the city streets in warm, golden hues as she walked her son toward the iron gates of a prestigious new private kindergarten.
The little boy, brimming with infectious energy, adjusted the straps of his small backpack. He reached out, cheerfully taking his new teacher's hand, and skipped toward the bright, welcoming classroom without a single backward glance.
"Is that your son?" a voice chimed in.
Sienna turned to see a cluster of wealthy mothers gathered near the school’s manicured courtyard. One woman, draped in designer silk, stared after the boy in open amazement. "He is so striking! I have never seen such a handsome little boy in my life."
Sienna’s chest swelled with an undeniable wave of maternal pride. She offered a polite smile, nodding her thanks. The dark, churning trauma of her past still haunted her quiet moments, but her son was her absolute light.
Leaving the school behind, Sienna headed straight to Lumiere for her first day as an exclusive custom designer. Stepping off the elevator, she found herself in a sprawling, modern workspace defined by sleek glass partitions and polished marble floors. Because of her elite status within the design department, she was given a private, dedicated office and instructed to create unique, lifetime custom pieces for a select clientele rather than mass-market items.
She barely had time to set her bag down before a young, energetic woman knocked on the doorframe.
"Sienna? Here is your coffee," the woman said, stepping inside with a bright smile. "I am Stella Tate, your assistant."
"Thank you, Stella," Sienna said, taking the steaming cup. She instantly liked the woman’s capable, no-nonsense demeanor.
However, as Sienna stepped out of her office to get a feel for the design floor, she quickly sensed the toxic undercurrents of industry rivalry. Across the room, she caught the eye of a sexy, sharply dressed woman in her late twenties. The gold nameplate pinned to her lapel read: *Chief Designer Paige*.
Paige did not smile. Instead, she offered a hostile, venomous glare that practically dared Sienna to cross her. Sienna held the woman's gaze for a fleeting second before turning away. She understood the game immediately. In the high-stakes world of exclusive jewelry design, there were no friends. There were only fierce competitors fighting for the wealthiest clients. Being a fresh transfer from abroad, she was already a target.
She retreated to her office, burying herself in sketchpads and client profiles. Less than two hours later, Stella rapped sharply on the glass door, her expression tight with sudden urgency.
"Sienna, the manager just sent word," Stella said, checking her watch. "There is a mandatory, company-wide meeting at three o'clock sharp. The new big boss himself will be there. Everyone is expected to attend."
At precisely three o'clock, Sienna took her designated seat in the expansive Lumiere meeting room. The space buzzed with nervous energy. Dozens of key staff members whispered among themselves, exchanging bewildered theories about the sudden gathering.
The bustling room fell into a stunned, breathless silence the moment heavy footsteps echoed from the corridor.
The heavy oak doors were pushed wide open. A tall, imposing young man strode into the room. He wore a sharply cut, dark suit that accentuated his broad shoulders and straight figure. His angular features seemed carved from stone, and his dark eyes swept over the room with the predatory grace of a hawk. He bypassed the empty chairs and assumed the main seat at the head of the long table, leaning back with a majestic aura that instantly made his powerful identity known.
The female staff gasped audibly. Some shifted in their seats, their cheeks flushing as they took in the young billionaire's devastatingly handsome face.
Sienna’s breath hitched in her throat. Her heart sank like a heavy stone. *Why is he here?* The previous boss of Lumiere was a man in his fifties.
Vice President Gavin Cole cleared his throat, breaking the thick tension. "Let me introduce all of you to Mr. Declan Hawthorne. He is now the CEO and chairman of VX International Group. From now on, he will take over all the affairs of Lumiere. Everyone, please give him a warm welcome."
Another collective gasp ripped through the room.
*Declan Hawthorne? He bought the entire VX Jewelry Group?*
Sienna’s hands curled into tight fists under the table. She immediately deduced what was happening. The Hawthorne family was still stubbornly trying to force their gratitude upon her through professional channels. She glared straight ahead, inadvertently locking eyes with the man at the head of the table.
Declan’s intense, eagle-like gaze was fixed exclusively on her. While the rest of the room lacked the courage to even look the terrifying new CEO in the eye, Sienna stared him down with outright defiance. *Are they just going to keep showing up until I accept their money?* she thought, her blood boiling.
"Let's start the meeting," Declan ordered, his voice echoing off the glass walls. "You will preside over it," he added, glancing briefly at Gavin.
For the next hour, the actual content of the meeting ceased to matter. The female designers in the room were far too captivated by the unparalleled superiority radiating from the head of the table. But the fascination quickly curdled into fierce, unhidden jealousy when they realized Declan’s attention never wavered. He stared relentlessly at Sienna.
Paige and several other women shot venomous glares in Sienna's direction. The silent hostility in the room thickened into something suffocating. Sienna wanted to stand up and scream at him to look away, but she forced herself to endure it. She silently cursed the ironclad five-year contract she had just signed. She was trapped.
The moment the oppressive meeting was finally adjourned, Sienna bolted. She was the first one out the door, retreating down the hallway and slipping into her private office. She tossed her notebook onto the desk in deep agitation, rubbing her temples.
Before she could even catch her breath, the office door was pushed open.
Declan walked in, closing the door firmly behind him. He pulled out the chair across from her desk and sat down gracefully. He leaned back, exuding an air of absolute, crushing superiority that made the small room feel instantly claustrophobic.
Sienna dropped her hands and glared at him. "Is there something you need, President Hawthorne?" she asked, her voice clipped with impatience, abandoning any pretense of professional respect.
"Miss Caldwell, let's talk," Declan said in a calm, magnetic voice.
"Are we talking about work?" she countered, raising an eyebrow.
Declan ignored her sarcasm. He leaned forward slightly, resting his large hands on his knees, and directly addressed the heavy, blood-stained past standing between them. "You should know that I was kidnapped when I was five years old. It was your mother who gave her life to save me. I survived because she died. For this, the Hawthorne family is forever grateful and wants to repay you. Just name your price. I will satisfy any request."
Sienna’s posture went completely rigid. The raw nerve of her mother’s death flared painfully in her chest. She had known the Hawthornes were motivated by guilt, but hearing him say it aloud made her sick to her stomach.
"No need," Sienna fiercely refused, her voice trembling with barely suppressed anger. "My mother saved you because it was her responsibility as an officer. She acted out of duty. You don't need to repay me, and I won't accept it. Stop trying to force a debt I refuse to acknowledge."
Declan remained undeterred. He studied the fierce fire in her eyes, unfazed by her rejection. He narrowed his sharp eyes and offered a startling new proposition. "I heard that you have a son. If you want, I can step in. I will raise him together with you and make sure he never wants for anything."
Sienna violently snapped her head up. She stared at him, her lips parted in shock.
As she looked into his face, a sudden, bizarre realization washed over her like a bucket of ice water. The sharp, deep-set eyes. The strong, angular jawline. The dark hair and that imposing, arrogant temperament.
Her son shared an uncanny, chilling resemblance to this billionaire sitting across from her.
The thought was so absurd, so entirely impossible, that she shoved it out of her mind before it could take root. She gripped the edge of her desk, staring him down with absolute defiance.
"I don't need someone else to raise my son for me," Sienna declared.
