Chapter Forty-Four

I glanced over at Rox in the passenger seat. She was staring blankly out the window, wiping at her face when a stray tear escaped and ran down her cheek.

We were driving back from the doctor’s office, where we had been given unfortunate news. After extensive testing, they didn’t think that Rox could have a child of her own.

There weren’t any absolutes, though. A hybrid like Rox was so ra
