POV: Third-Person Limited (Rhea Locke).

Rhea held the violently squirming creature up to the sunlight, keeping a firm grip on its hard, spiked carapace as it thrashed wildly in her grasp. She evaluated the plump, red-shelled crustacean, turning it side to side. It was a massive coconut crab, a formidable beast with thick, clicking pincers that snapped blindly at the humid air. She weighed it carefully in her hands, feeling the sheer density of the creature. It was easily a solid eight or nine pounds of pure, packed muscle.

A familiar, translucent blue screen flickered to life in her peripheral vision.

*[You have captured a plump red-shelled coconut crab. Tender, edible meat. Shell usable for crafting.]*

A dry chuckle escaped her lips, breaking the heavy silence of the tropical jungle. For once, the survival system actually bothered to dress up its notifications with a bit of culinary flair. She adjusted her grip to avoid a snapping claw. It was genuinely funny in a dark, twisted sort of way. Back in her old life, she had scraped by on instant noodles and cheap takeout, barely making rent, let alone affording luxury dining. Now, after being unceremoniously dropped into a nightmare oceanic survival game where death loomed beneath every crashing wave, she had finally earned the lifetime seafood buffet she could never afford back home.

Coconut crabs, for all their intimidating size and armor, were incredibly slow, clumsy creatures on land. They lumbered through the underbrush like miniature, uncoordinated tanks. For someone with her enhanced reflexes and predatory focus, they were incredibly easy pickings. Within ten minutes of scouring the dense green brush, she had effortlessly plucked five more of the beasts from the tangled roots. She casually tossed all six of the massive crabs into her spatial storage ring, watching them vanish into the digital inventory space.

As she wiped a smudge of dirt from her palm, she noted the bizarre coloration of her catch. She remembered nature documentaries from her old life; coconut crabs were supposed to be a dull blue-green, a natural camouflage meant to help them disappear into the coastal shadows. But these creatures possessed an unnatural, bright boiled-red hue—despite being completely alive and fighting mad. It was just another glaring reminder that this alien world played by its own twisted, nonsensical rules.

Satisfied with her haul, Rhea turned her attention back to the terrain. She pushed deeper through the thick, green brush, heading deliberately toward the island's center. The air grew hotter, the humidity baking off as the environment abruptly shifted. The lush, vibrant jungle gave way without warning to a harsh, desert-like stretch of dry sand. The ground crunched beneath her boots, the soil devoid of life and moisture.

Catching the harsh, beating sunlight, distinct veins of dark metal gleamed across the pale ground. Jagged chunks of raw ore rose straight out of the sand, scattered aggressively like oversized metallic weeds. Rhea froze in her tracks. Her breath hitched in her throat.

Cobalt ore.

She stared at the sprawling mineral deposits, her mind racing through the game’s brutal economic realities. This material was a massive bottleneck in the survival game's progression system. Every player desperate to upgrade their flimsy wooden rafts into fortified sea vessels needed cobalt. It was a resource usually fought over violently, hoarded by the strong, and occasionally pulled from rare, highly contested ocean loot chests. Yet here, an entire, untouched field of raw cobalt sat in plain sight on a forgettable little island.

*Jackpot,* she thought, stepping forward with her heart hammering a rapid rhythm against her ribs.

But as she moved into the clearing, her eyes locked onto a distinct shape resting in the sand. It was a heavy, bronze-bound chest. It sat perfectly, almost too perfectly, right in the dead center of the gleaming mineral deposits. The copper lock attached to the latch was mottled with rust and hanging slightly crooked, practically begging an eager scavenger to pop it open.

Her initial rush of excitement instantly cooled into icy suspicion. Her boots halted in the grit.

*A pristine chest sitting dead center in a highly valuable cobalt field? Too convenient,* she analyzed, her sharp gaze sweeping the perimeter. *Nobody leaves a treasure chest in the middle of a fortune without a catch. This could be a trap.*

As she stood frozen, analyzing the precise angle of the chest and the undisturbed sand around it, a soft, barely perceptible shifting of sand caught her sharp attention. It was not the clumsy rustle of a heavy crab dragging its shell. It was lighter. Calculated. Intentional.

Without turning her head even a fraction of an inch, Rhea utilized her enhanced perception. She flicked her eyes sideways, relying entirely on her peripheral vision. There, clinging tightly to the rough bark of a nearby coconut tree right at the edge of the clearing, she clocked a human silhouette. The shadow was subtle, blending with the fronds, but it did not belong in the natural geometry of the jungle.

Behind that coconut tree, the notorious pirate player known as Viper Shadows gripped the hilt of his jagged knife. His breath came in shallow, controlled bursts. He pressed his back against the wood, eagerly waiting for the exact moment she dropped her guard. His strategy was simple and practiced: wait for the clueless scavenger to pop the chest's lock, let them trigger whatever mechanism or distraction lay inside, and then jump out to claim both the loot and the victim's life while they were distracted.

Instead of taking the bait and rushing the bronze chest, Rhea abruptly halted her advance. She stood a few yards away, leaned her weight onto one leg, and dramatically rubbed her chin.

"Just sitting out here like this…" she muttered aloud, pitching her voice loud enough so the hidden player could hear her clear across the clearing. "Feels like it belongs to someone already. Yeah, no. Probably shouldn't mess with other people's stuff."

Behind the tree, Viper Shadows nearly choked on his own spit. He was utterly baffled by her lack of greed. Who in their right mind saw a massive treasure chest surrounded by rare cobalt and decided to respect property rights?

Rapidly losing his patience and terrified she would actually walk away from the ambush zone, Viper Shadows sprang from his hiding spot. He burst from the tree line, kicking up clouds of dry sand as he charged across the open ground. He leveled his rusted, serrated blade directly at her throat, closing the distance in a matter of seconds.

"Robbery! Hand it over!" he barked, his voice ragged and raw from the salt air.

Rhea deliberately flinched, shrinking back and acting terrified to draw him in closer. As she feigned her panic, her hidden UI interface blinked to life in her left eye. Her specialized eyepatch scanned the charging man instantly, projecting a neat, glowing panel of information over his chest.

*[Player ID: Viper Shadows]*

*[Class: Pirate]*

*[Sin Points: 30]*

*[Bounty: 100 Shell Tokens]*

She immediately recognized the red-tagged name hovering above his head. The global chat had been tearing into him all morning. The digital forums had been flooded with warnings and furious rants about a ruthless pirate named Viper Shadows who had murdered a female player in cold blood for her meager supplies.

"Dump your supplies on the sand," he demanded, coming to a halt just inches away, the tip of his rusted blade hovering dangerously close to her jugular. He licked his dry, cracked lips, a cruel smirk twisting his features.

His dark eyes dragged slowly over her face and body, lingering on her figure. The predator in him was already looking past the robbery. His mind was already entertaining dark, lewd plans for his attractive new captive. He figured once she surrendered her inventory, he could easily subdue her, bind her wrists, and drag her back to his hidden ship for some private entertainment before cashing in whatever bounty he could extract.

The very second the vile thought fully formed in his head, Rhea vanished.

One heartbeat, she was cowering before the edge of his blade. The next heartbeat, the space before him was completely empty.

Before Viper Shadows could even blink, before his brain could process the sudden absence of his victim, the back of his neck turned to absolute ice. A rough, jagged cobalt dagger was securely pressed flush against his pulsing carotid artery. The sharp edge bit just enough to warn him that a single flinch would end his life.

She had used Spectral Footwork, teleporting seamlessly into his blind spot.

"Now this is a robbery," Rhea whispered directly into his ear, her voice as cold and flat as a stagnant tide pool.

"H-How..." Viper Shadows stammered, the rusted knife trembling in his slack grip. His mind was violently spinning as he tried to comprehend the impossible, teleporting maneuver. He was supposed to be the predator. He was the pirate who hunted the weak. No normal class could move like that.

"Dump your supplies," Rhea stated flatly, her face giving away absolutely nothing, mirroring his earlier demand with terrifying stillness. "Do that, and I'll make sure you die quick. No pain."

Panic seized him like a physical blow. The cold reality of the dagger against his throat shattered his arrogant facade. He dropped his rusted knife into the sand, holding his empty hands up. He gritted his teeth, sweat beading on his forehead as he desperately tried to bargain his way out of an execution.

"Wait! I screwed up, alright? My bad!" he pleaded, his voice cracking. "I'll give you all my supplies. Everything I own, every bit of it! Just let me go! Listen to me, the system has newbie protection rules!"

Rhea maintained the pressure on his artery, her silence forcing him to keep talking.

"If you kill me right here on the beach, you get nothing!" he warned frantically, spitting words out as fast as he could. "The protection rules lock you out! I left my massive stash hidden on my ship offshore. You can't loot a dead man's protected vessel unless you're a registered pirate and board it while he's alive! Kill me, and you walk away empty-handed!"

Rhea didn't answer. She didn't care about the loot on his ship, nor did she care about his frantic bartering.

She simply retracted her dagger a fraction of an inch and drove her knee straight and hard into his lower spine.

The impact was brutal. Viper Shadows gasped as the strike disrupted his nervous system, his legs buckling instantly beneath him. He face-planted violently into the coarse sand, hacking and gagging as the breath was driven entirely from his lungs. Before he could even attempt to writhe away, Rhea dropped her weight onto his back, pinning his dead weight down to the earth with devastating force.

Moving with terrifying, ruthless efficiency, she didn't bother searching for rope. She used the jagged edge of her cobalt dagger to saw through the thick, salt-stained fabric of his heavy pirate jacket right off his back. She yanked the garment free and aggressively ripped the durable fabric into long, sturdy strips.

Viper Shadows thrashed beneath her, spitting sand and cursing, but her grip was like iron. She grabbed his flailing arms, wrenching them backward with enough force to pop his joints, and aggressively cinched his wrists tight with the makeshift cloth rope. She then moved to his legs, binding his ankles together with the same brutal efficiency, effectively hogtying him in the dirt.

When the knots were secured, she stood up. She reached down, grabbed him viciously by the hair, and hauled his face up from the sand. He spat a mouthful of grit, glaring up at her with a mixture of hatred and absolute terror.

"Crawl over there," Rhea commanded, her voice void of any human sympathy. She extended her arm, pointing the blood-stained tip of her blade precisely at the bronze-bound chest sitting untouched in the center of the cobalt ore field.

"Open the chest."
