By the time Vaughn came home that day, it seemed he had already gotten wind of Cleo’s good performance at training—likely through Beckett. He wasn’t smiling—he never did—but he also didn’t look disappointed.

“I heard you had a good day,” he said as we sat down for dinner.

“Beckett said you used your Alpha Voice.”
