Harmony and the Hidden Treasure
Margot sat down on the piano bench. She adjusted the microphone stand, the metallic scrape echoing across the stadium, and the massive crowd instantly fell into a breathless silence. Her elegant fingers hovered over the keys for a fraction of a second before they glided downward. The opening notes of Noelle's 'Goodnight' rang out with flawless, breathtaking brilliance.
Standing center stage, Julian stood paralyzed. He stared at her, shock locking his muscles. She actually knew how to play. A brief second passed before his professional instincts kicked in. He gripped his mic and poured his heart into the vocals. Despite never having rehearsed together, Margot’s precise timing and deep musical expression blended seamlessly with Julian's voice. The piano chords wrapped perfectly around his pitch, creating a powerful, mesmerizing performance that left the audience captivated.
Up in the VIP section, Bianca forced a tight smile. Beneath her composed exterior, she was secretly burning with white-hot rage. Her elaborate plan to manipulate the ticketing system and humiliate the country girl had backfired spectacularly. Fans around her were already screaming in delight, typing frantically on their phones and posting online about how perfect Julian and Margot looked together.
Beside her, Bennett stared fixedly at the stage. The sight of Margot's wavy hair cascading under the stage lights, paired with Julian’s passionate singing, rubbed him the wrong way. He crossed his arms, finding their perfect harmony strangely, deeply irritating. A sharp wave of unexpected jealousy tightened his chest.
By the time Margot struck the final chord, the stadium erupted into wild, deafening cheers.
After stepping off the stage and escaping the roaring crowd, Margot headed toward the quiet hallway near the restrooms. The heavy bass of the concert muffled her footsteps. Just as she stepped out of the washroom, an elegant, middle-aged woman blocked her path. The stranger wore a beautiful brown designer dress and a delicate face mask that obscured her features.
"Margot, right?" The woman approached with a soft voice. Her eyes carried a look of profound, lingering sadness. She held out a stunning bouquet of fresh, delicate tulips. "I loved your performance. I wanted to gift you these."
Margot accepted the flowers, her brow furrowing in confusion. "Do we know each other?"
"No, I don't know you," the woman replied softly. She looked down at the tulips for a fleeting second. "I simply found your playing moving."
Without another word, the woman turned and walked away, her heels clicking softly against the tile. Margot stood alone in the corridor, staring at the bouquet as a strange, heavy sensation settled in her chest.
Later that evening, the concert concluded, and the Ashcroft family gathered in the grand living room of their residence. Alistair and Evelyn had prepared a massive celebratory dinner for Julian’s birthday. After Julian blew out the candles on his towering cake, the family settled onto the leather sofas for the gifts.
The brothers stepped forward first, presenting Julian with lavish, expensive items. He received prime villa deeds, a custom-made Swiss watch, and luxury cruise ship papers. Julian accepted them all with polite, standard smiles, thanking his brothers one by one.
Then, Margot stepped forward. She calmly handed him a plain, average-sized cardboard box.
From his seat, Caspian snickered. The family knew Margot had not gone shopping today. They assumed she had grabbed some cheap trash at the last minute just to save face.
Julian took the box. The moment he tore open the simple paper and lifted the lid, his body froze. The polite smile vanished from his face, replaced by stunned disbelief.
Resting pristine inside the box was an authentic Lare microphone. It was a legendary, one-of-a-kind musical treasure. Just recently, the item had been auctioned to an anonymous billionaire for 1.3 million dollars. Julian had spent months desperately trying to track down the elusive buyer, begging his contacts for a chance to purchase it.
"Is that a joke?" Caspian sneered, leaning over the table. "It must be a cheap, plastic counterfeit."
Julian fiercely snapped his head toward his younger brother. "Shut up! I know this instrument's unique weight and craftsmanship at a single glance. It is genuine." He turned back to Margot, his chest heaving with excitement. "Is this truly for me?"
Margot nodded calmly.
"Where did you even get this?" Julian gasped.
"The billionaire who won the auction happened to be a close acquaintance of mine," Margot explained, her tone flat and unbothered. "They gifted it to me in hopes of launching my music career. But since I cannot sing, it is useless to me. I decided to give it to you instead."
She stepped back, adjusting her jacket. "Happy birthday, Julian. I am tired, so I am going to head upstairs."
Margot turned and walked up the sweeping staircase. Her casual, effortless departure left the living room locked in a state of stunned awe. The brothers stared at the multi-million dollar treasure in Julian’s hands, realizing her simple cardboard box had outshone their millions. As the sound of her footsteps faded, the family was left grappling with her baffling, high-society influence, forced to see the quiet girl in a terrifyingly powerful new light.
