"In-N-Out after school," Landon said, leaning back in his chair and flashing a casual grin. "You in?"

Kyra hesitated. Her smile faltered, replaced by a tight grimace as she bit her bottom lip. "I wish I could," she said, her tone dripping with regret. "But my parents are strict about me coming straight home after the final bell. You guys should go though."

I knew her situation from
