The Stolen Heir

"Harder!" the doctor commanded, his voice sharp against the clinical hum of the delivery room.

"Ahhh!"

With one final, agonizing push, Sylvie felt a sudden, deep release that took the last of her strength. A sharp, loud cry broke the tension in the room, announcing the arrival of a new life.

The primary doctor smiled, lifting the newborn. "It's a healthy baby boy!"

"He is beautiful," a nurse added, cleaning the infant. "He looks exactly like Mr. Sterling. Look at those features."

Sylvie lay flat on the delivery table, drained of all strength. Sweat soaked her hair, plastering it to her pale forehead. Her chest rose and fell in ragged gasps as she forced her eyes open. She stared at the tiny, squirming baby. Even as a newborn, his delicate facial structure mirrored Julian’s striking, sharp looks. He was tiny, his skin pale and slightly flushed, but his cry was strong.

A fragile, maternal smile touched Sylvie's dry lips. For nine months, she had hidden her growing belly, enduring the physical toll in silence. Now, seeing him, the agony faded into a deep, overwhelming warmth. She slowly raised a trembling arm, aching to hold her son.

"Let me see him..." she whispered, her voice barely a thread.

But before her fingers could touch the baby's soft skin, a pair of manicured hands intercepted him.

"Sylvie, thank you for helping me give birth to this baby. I’ll take him now."

Sylvie’s hand froze in midair. She turned her head slowly. Settling onto the portable bed right beside her was Giselle. Under the harsh, sterile lights of the operating room, Giselle’s face was an exact mirror of Sylvie's. They were identical twins, yet the contrast in their expressions was stark. Giselle held the crying baby with a practiced, possessive grip, a triumphant smile playing on her lips.

The sound of her baby’s cries pierced Sylvie’s ears, twisting like a cold blade in her chest. The maternal instinct to protect her child flared, overriding her physical exhaustion.

"Giselle... no," Sylvie croaked, struggling to sit up. "Please... I want to keep him. He's my baby."

Giselle’s smile vanished instantly. She stared at Sylvie as if she had lost her mind. "What did you say?"

"I want to keep him," Sylvie repeated, tears finally escaping her eyes and tracing paths through the sweat on her cheeks. "I can't let him go."

"Sylvie, do you know what you are saying?" Giselle hissed, leaning closer, her voice sharp and dripping with disbelief. "Are you insane? You are only nineteen years old. You are single, with no money and no future. How do you plan to explain this child to the world? Do you want everyone to know you had a shameless one-night stand with Julian Sterling?"

Sylvie flinched as the name was spoken aloud.

"Do you want to destroy our parents' reputation?" Giselle continued mercilessly. "Do you want our entire family to be the laughingstock of the city? And what about this child? Do you want him to grow up branded as an illegitimate outcast, scorned by everyone he meets?"

Every word hit Sylvie like a physical blow. The color drained from her face, leaving her a ghostly pale. She had no defense.

Sylvie had been raised in the poor countryside, isolated from the high-society life of her family. They had only brought her back to the city a year ago. Shortly after her return, she had accidentally ended up in Julian’s bed. That night, Julian had been drugged, his actions wild and desperate. In the dark, he had mistaken her for Giselle, her identical twin. Sylvie had been too terrified to speak up, and Julian had left without ever knowing she existed.

For the past nine months, Giselle had worn fake bellies, played the part of the pregnant fiancée, and successfully deceived Julian. Now, the deception was reaching its climax.

Seeing Sylvie’s silence, Giselle softened her tone, placing a gentle, yet firm hand on Sylvie's trembling shoulder. "Sylvie, look at the bigger picture. If he stays with me, he will be the rightful prince of the Sterling family. He will have the best education, unlimited wealth, and a father who rules an empire. I will raise him as my own biological child. Julian will never know."

She squeezed Sylvie’s shoulder, her eyes narrowing slightly. "Just return to the countryside quietly. Never come back here. I am doing this for your sake, and for the baby's future. It is the only way."

Sylvie stared at her sister, her heart breaking into a thousand pieces. She looked at the baby, who was now quiet, wrapped in a blanket. The injustice of it all suffocated her, yet the harsh reality of Giselle's words was undeniable. She had no power to fight the Sterling family.

Before Sylvie could utter another word, Giselle caught the lead doctor’s eye and gave a subtle, cold nod.

The doctor stepped forward, holding a syringe filled with a clear liquid.

Sylvie’s eyes widened in sudden panic. "Giselle... what is that?"

"Don't worry, it's just a mild sedative to help you rest," Giselle said smoothly, her voice dripping with artificial warmth. "You've been through a lot of pain. Sleep now, and when you wake up, everything will be taken care of."

Sylvie tried to pull away, but her body was too weak to resist. The needle pierced her skin, and the cold liquid entered her veins. Within seconds, a heavy, suffocating darkness pressed down on her eyelids. Her vision blurred, and the image of her sister holding her son faded away.

The medical team quickly wheeled Sylvie’s limp, unconscious body behind a thick, dark curtain.

Outside the delivery room, the heavy double doors swung open.

A tall, powerful, and imposing figure strode down the quiet, sterile hospital corridor. Julian Sterling had arrived. Standing well over six feet, he exuded an aura of absolute power and cold authority. He wore a tailored charcoal suit, his dark hair immaculate, and his sharp, handsome facial features carved like granite. He was the young billionaire who ruled the business world, a man whose name made competitors tremble and women swoon.

Giselle, now lying weakly on the wheeled hospital bed with the baby cradled close to her chest, looked up. Her eyes lit up with intense ambition as Julian approached.

"Julian..." Giselle whimpered, her voice instantly turning fragile and breathless. She looked up at him with tear-filled eyes. "You came."

Julian stopped by the side of her bed. His dark, piercing eyes locked onto the small bundle in her arms.

"It was so painful," Giselle whispered, letting a single tear fall. "I almost didn't make it. But holding our son... I've never been happier. Julian, for the sake of our child, please don't call off our engagement. Let us be a real family."

A year ago, Julian had been determined to dissolve the marriage contract with Giselle. The only reason he had hesitated was because of that fateful night when he had been set up and drugged. He recalled how rough and ruthless he had been when he took her by force. Believing that woman had been Giselle, he felt a rare flicker of responsibility.

Julian looked down at the newborn baby. The infant shared his distinct, sharp jawline. There was no doubt this was his bloodline.

A cold, decisive expression settled over his handsome face. He curled his thin lips into a faint, ruthless line.

"Okay," Julian said, his deep, resonant voice echoing in the quiet corridor. "We will get the marriage certificate tomorrow."

Giselle’s heart leaped with joy. Her deception was complete.
