The Prodigy's Chip

Standing tall in the center of the hostile living room, Clara addressed the matriarch with a cool, professional tone. She ignored the venomous glares of the relatives surrounding her. "Grandmother, I came back to make a highly lucrative business deal with the Callahan family."

Clara unzipped her leather bag. She pulled out a thick set of printed technical documents and placed them onto the polished coffee table with a solid thud.

"I majored in computer science," Clara stated, locking eyes with Mdm. Callahan. "During my rigorous postgraduate studies in Yelverton, I successfully developed an incredibly advanced smart chip. The technology has not hit the market yet. I explicitly want the Callahan Corporation to be my exclusive partner."

The room immediately erupted in a chorus of disdain and mockery. The relatives scoffed, rolling their eyes at her audacity.

Diana sneered loudly, her face twisting in ugly jealousy. She stepped forward, pointing a manicured finger at the documents. "Clara, do you hear yourself?" she openly scoffed at the absurd idea. "Callahan Corporation is one of Bay City's top ten elite corporations. We have countless prominent tech companies begging to work with us every single day, and we do not even give them the time of day! Why would we ever agree to work with a disgraced exile just because you asked? Do you think a few printed pages make you a CEO?"

Mdm. Callahan opened her mouth to speak, slamming her cane down to demand order, but Uncle Arthur confidently stepped forward, cutting off the matriarch before she could intervene.

"Mom, let me handle this," Arthur said, holding up a hand. Adopting a patronizing tone, he looked down his nose at Clara. "Clara, you are my niece, and I pity you. I truly do. But we absolutely cannot conduct serious business based on mere pity. The company is already struggling fiercely to enter the highly competitive IoT market. It is a ruthless industry. We cannot bend our corporate rules just to give you a handout."

Arthur tapped his fingers against the coffee table, dismissing the papers without glancing at them. "We have just recently invested a massive fortune to purchase a foreign smart chip copyright to solve our production issues. We are about to enter the production stage. Why should we throw out a multi-million dollar acquisition and change our business partner just for your little project?"

The rest of the extended family quickly piled on. They displayed a rare, toxic solidarity as they viciously attacked her character, their voices echoing off the high ceiling.

"She is just shamelessly scheming for her grandmother's money! It is an obvious trick to secure a cut of the inheritance!" an aunt yelled out.

"You were supposed to be dead! Why did you come back from the dead just to ruin our peace?" a cousin chimed in, glaring at Clara from the sofa.

"She is an Ashford! An Ashford who brought us nothing but shame in the past deserves absolutely nothing from this estate! Get her out of here!"

Mdm. Callahan’s temper flared dangerously at the sheer, unbridled hostility directed at her newly returned granddaughter. She gripped her walking cane tighter, her knuckles turning white, her chest heaving.

But just before she could unleash her wrath on the greedy crowd, a soft, childish voice pierced through the shouting and silenced the entire room.

Declan, Clara's four-year-old son, stepped boldly forward to defend his mother. He stood in front of Clara, putting himself between her and the angry adults. Fixing his bright, unwavering eyes on Arthur, he spoke with a coolness that did not belong to a child.

"Granduncle," Declan asked coolly. "Did Callahan Corporation specifically buy the rights for Mercer Corporation's MCP12 chip?"

Arthur frowned in confusion. He was genuinely bewildered. He stared down at the toddler, stammering out a demand. "How do you know such classified corporate information?"

Without missing a beat, Declan coolly dismantled the company's multi-million dollar acquisition.

"I know that the MCP12 chip promises smooth operations," Declan said, expertly pointing out the technical flaws. "But it has a fatal inability to receive and process multiple simultaneous commands."

He casually stuffed his small hands into his pockets. "You should have used a combination of AMP1 and RIWE-34 to improve the architecture. But I have to sternly warn you, even with that patch, it still isn't remotely enough to secure a dominant slice of the IoT market. You chose the wrong chip."

The adults in the room were completely stunned into silence.

Arthur felt a cold chill run down his spine. His own lead assistant had raised those exact, highly technical concerns just days prior. Arthur had spent sleepless nights worrying over the MCP12 chip's limitations, knowing that modifying the architecture was a nightmare even for multinational tech giants. Hearing a four-year-old casually recite his private corporate headache caused his patronizing scorn to evaporate into thin air.

"How... how do you know all of this?" Arthur stammered, entirely dumbfounded by the boy's impossible knowledge. Kids his age were still playing in sandboxes, not analyzing microarchitecture.

Declan smiled brightly, his chest puffing out. He proudly declared, "My Mommy taught me everything! She is widely known as a literal chip genius by her Yelverton lecturers. If you work with her, the corporation will have a brilliant future!"

Clara gently stroked her son's hair, feeling a wave of fond resignation wash over her. She kept a neutral expression, but she knew the truth. Declan was the true, terrifying genius. He was a savant hacker since birth. He had actually done the heavy lifting to help her develop the chip so swiftly, solving problems that would take ordinary engineers years.

Pushing the contract forward on the table, Clara looked directly at her stunned uncle. She faintly suggested, "Uncle Arthur, maybe you should actually take a moment to read my chip's technical description before dismissing it."

Arthur reached out and opened the file with complicated, skeptical feelings. He flipped to the first page. As his eyes scanned the complex code and schematics, his breath hitched. He completely froze in shock.

He flipped to the next page, reading faster, his eyes darting across the lines of data. Clara had effortlessly and perfectly solved the exact, mind-bending technical difficulties that over a hundred of his senior programmers had miserably failed to crack over the past three months. The logic was flawless. The architecture was revolutionary.

If this smart chip delivered even half of what the documents promised, it could instantly propel Callahan Corporation to the absolute top of the IoT market. It would crush their competitors overnight.

Trembling with excitement, Arthur gripped the papers tightly. His face flushed red. "Clara," he asked urgently, his voice tight. "Have you sold this chip to any other company yet?"

Clara met his frantic gaze and coolly replied, "I haven't."

Arthur's absolute delight could not be suppressed. He slammed his hand on the table. "I am signing this contract right this second!" he announced loudly, spinning around to face the bewildered household staff. "Someone fetch me a pen! Now!"

Diana's eyes widened in absolute, sheer horror. She stepped toward her father, screaming at him, accusing him of going mad.

"Dad, have you gone mad? Can't you see that Clara and her b*stard are just lying to you?"
