I did not have time to question it, because he shifted and guided me right back against his chest. My cheek pressed over his heartbeat. His chin rested lightly on top of my head.

I stilled completely, trapped in that moment, but not in a bad way. In a way that made my entire body feel warm and grounded and shaky all at once.

He held me without hesitation, like it was something he had
