Chapter Seventy-Three

The ocean wakes me up before my alarm does, steady and soft, like it keeps breathing even when I forget to. I lie in bed for a minute, staring at the ceiling fan turning slowly, listening to water against the deck, and I realize something strange.
I'm calm.
Not perfectly, not magically, but calm enough that my chest isn't clenched the second I open my eyes. Calm enough that I can feel the
