The phone rings before the alarm does.
For a second I think I’m dreaming, but it keeps buzzing against the nightstand. I blink, grab it, squint at the screen.
Beck.
I sit up, rubbing my eyes. The room’s still dark, just a thin line of light pushing through the blinds. My head feels heavy, that half-sleep haze that clings when your brain never really shuts off.
