Oriana's voice stayed calm. "Go ahead."

The shadow guard dipped his head slightly. "On my way back, I ran into Colton. He asked me to pass along a message—His Grace is tied up with state affairs. He most likely won't make it here tonight."

Gideon wasn't coming tonight.

Instead of disappointment, Oriana felt a wave of relief wash through her.

"What happened?" she asked.

"He didn't explain," the gua
