The Charity Dinner
Kaelen froze, the audacious words ringing in his ears. His gaze remained locked on Valeria’s flawless face. She exuded a breathtaking, Aphrodite-like charm. Her sensual allure wrapped around him, momentarily stealing the words from his throat. She was a natural femme fatale, effortlessly ensnaring anyone in her orbit with a bewitching smile.
Seeing his genuine fluster, Valeria let out a light, musical laugh. Her breasts heaved with her mirth, drawing the eye to her voluptuous curves. Kaelen struggled to tear his wide eyes away from her stunning face. The more he looked, the harder it was to ignore her striking figure.
"Why so shocked?" she teased, her eyes dancing with mischief. "I am just playing around."
Swiftly, her playful demeanor shifted, replaced by a tone of serious earnestness. She looked up at him, her expression sobering. "Mr. Vance, back to the issue at hand. I desperately need to ask yet another massive favor from you."
"What is it?" Kaelen asked, recovering his composure.
"You know that my elite team of bodyguards is stationed back at the hospital to protect my vulnerable grandfather," Valeria explained logically. "I am exposed. I am vulnerable to another unpredictable attack from the Vexor Group. I want to know if you would be willing to act as my personal bodyguard and fiercely protect me twenty-four-seven for the time being."
Kaelen raised an eyebrow. "A personal bodyguard? Ms. Sinclair, wouldn't it make more sense for you to simply hide somewhere safe and fortified until this storm passes?"
Valeria countered with a heavy sigh. "That is impossible, Mr. Vance. The Sinclair family is hosting a massive charity dinner at the Eclipse club tonight. As the main organizer, I have to publicly host the event. My absence would show weakness." She batted her eyelashes, leaning in slightly to add dramatic flair. "Besides, what if someone decides to make a scene tonight? A helpless damsel like myself would be defenseless against armed assassins."
Kaelen remained silent, deeply reluctant to dive deeper into a billionaire family's bloody underworld war.
Sensing his hesitation, Valeria masterfully played her trump card. She blinked innocently, pointing out the glaring reality. "If something unfortunate were to suddenly befall me, no one would be alive to deliver the rare canscora herb you so desperately need tomorrow."
The mention of the herb hit the mark. Kaelen was desperate to secure the rare ingredient for his sick friend. He could not afford any missteps before getting his hands on it.
He finally relented, letting out a short breath. "Alright. I will protect you."
"Many thanks, Mr. Vance," Valeria murmured. She offered a sly, satisfied smile. He remained unaware that beneath her logical arguments, her true, burning interest lay much more in exploring the profound mystery of her capable new bodyguard than the actual physical protection he offered.
Later that exact evening, the scene transitioned to the Eclipse. The majestic, lavish, Victorian-inspired private establishment was owned and operated by the wealthy Sinclair family. The grand venue was massive, resembling a sprawling luxury hotel. It featured sweeping gabled roofs, expansive bay windows, and intricate decorative sculptures. The interior exuded a similar grandeur, designed to awe anyone lucky enough to step inside. Outside, manicured gardens, sprawling vineyards, and a pristine man-made lake surrounded the property. The estate was crawling with the city's elite.
A sleek black Benz glided to a halt at the entrance. The rear door opened, and a gorgeous woman stepped out into the flashing lights of the venue. Sienna arrived dressed impeccably in a flawless, sweeping black evening gown. The dark fabric clung to her stunning figure, highlighting her long legs and flawless skin. Her graceful, icy presence instantly and effortlessly captivated the surrounding onlookers. She moved with an innate elegance that definitively cemented her legendary status as one of Eldridge's revered Four Beauties.
"What a beautiful woman! Is she a famous actress?" a guest whispered.
"Her face and figure are out of this world," another murmured.
"Isn't she the president of the Aegis Group? She is one of the Four Beauties!"
The people milling about the grand entrance stared in awe, whispering among themselves as they were outshone by her presence. Yet, her intimidating aura kept anyone from daring to approach and introduce themselves.
Stepping out of the other side of the car, Vera, Sienna’s secretary, openly marveled at the club's jaw-dropping, opulent architecture. "I never thought the Eclipse would be this grand! The designs and sculptures are magnificent!"
Sienna surveyed the sprawling estate. Even with her exacting standards, she admitted the Eclipse occupied a class of its own.
"Sienna, there you are!" a voice called out.
A young man in a tailored suit and spectacles strode confidently toward their small group. It was Dexter Bellerose, the smug and arrogant second son of the Bellerose family.
"Mr. Bellerose, are you interested in tonight's charity dinner as well?" Sienna greeted him with polite detachment.
"I am not interested in just any charity dinner," Dexter answered, puffing out his chest. "But this event is organized by the Sinclair family. Who wouldn't be interested?"
He gestured broadly toward the grand building. "The Sinclair family is undeniably one of the Ruling Three. Their financial power and influence are unrivaled in Eldridge. Making an invitation to their event is coveted by every business in the state."
Vera smirked knowingly. "Mr. Bellerose, are you sure that is all you are interested in?"
Dexter chuckled, a boastful, self-satisfied smirk playing on his lips. He confidently announced his true, ulterior motive for attending the charity ball. "Of course I have an ulterior motive. I am here to be of help to both of you."
"Help us?" Vera asked, her eyes widening in confusion.
Dexter leaned in closely to Sienna, loudly boasting so those nearby could hear. "I heard solid rumors that the Aegis Group has somehow miraculously been shortlisted to become one of the Sinclair family’s primary business partners. It is no easy feat for a company like Aegis to partner with such a titan."
He tapped his chest. "That is why I am personally here. I intend to leverage my immense family connections and put in a good word on your direct behalf. This will boost your chances of signing that coveted contract."
Vera was overjoyed at the golden prospect. The partnership would elevate the Aegis Group's reputation and skyrocket her own status as the president's secretary. She immediately fawned over him. "That would be incredible! Thank you so much, Mr. Bellerose!"
"You are welcome," Dexter said. He shot Sienna a deliberate, deeply affectionate smile. "Given my special relationship with Sienna, doing such a massive favor is no trouble at all."
Vera eagerly and obnoxiously played along with his game. "Of course! The Bellerose and Caldwell families are practically like one big, happy family already."
However, despite the massive business implications being discussed mere inches from her, Sienna had not actually heard a single, solitary word of their entire exchange. Her sharp gaze was transfixed on a familiar silhouette standing quietly by a luxurious imported car in the far distance.
She recognized those broad shoulders instantly. It was Kaelen.
A sudden, heavy wave of intense guilt washed over her heart. Seeing his presence brought forth vivid recollections of the devastating truth she had learned at the hospital. The realization about the shattered crystal necklace gnawed at her conscience. She remembered her harsh, unjustified words, the way she had condemned him without listening to his side of the story.
Seeing him standing at this charity ball felt like the perfect, desperately needed opportunity to finally clear up their horrible misunderstanding. She needed to officially apologize to him and bridge the sudden chasm between them.
Instinctively, she left Dexter and Vera behind, beginning to walk rapidly toward him.
"Kaelen!" she called out, hoping to catch his attention.
She took another step, ready to explain herself, but then she abruptly stopped dead in her tracks. Her breath caught painfully in her throat.
Standing intimately close beside Kaelen was an incredibly striking, dangerously beautiful figure. It was a stunning woman dressed impeccably in a skin-tight, fiery red designer dress that flawlessly showcased her alluring, voluptuous curves. The unknown woman radiated a captivating, intensely powerful aura of nobility and untouchable grace. She looked exactly like a royal queen who had casually descended from the heavens merely to grace her lowly subjects with her awe-inspiring presence.
