I step deliberately forward, planting my large frame solidly between Jocelyn’s righteous fury and Detective Kross’s rising defensiveness. I am not doing this to shield her anger, but to bring this ridiculous spectacle to an immediate, definitive halt. The precinct lobby is buzzing with cops and civilians, but their eyes are fixed entirely on us.
