I sniffed and wiped the tears on my cheeks. Uncle Richard's always been afraid of mentioning my parents because he thinks it would break my heart again. He saw how devastated I was when my parents died and bringing up my parent's names could trigger my emotions. He knows that but I’m thankful to Charles Vance for telling me this.

“Your father saved me that day, Valerie. If not becaus
