Gavin followed me into the suite, close enough that I could hear the soft sound of his shoes on the carpet behind mine. He hadn’t touched me since the hallway, not even a guiding hand to my elbow like he usually did when I was teetering in heels or carrying too many things. Just silence and presence, like a storm cloud looming too close. Heavy. Unavoidable.
I walked into my room like it knew
