A Mother's Lie

I drifted up from the heavy pull of sleep, drawn awake by the wet heat of soft kisses trailing along the sensitive skin of my neck. Oscar’s familiar weight shifted over my body, pressing the mattress down around me. I blinked my eyes open to the dark ceiling, my mind still thick with lingering dreams.
“You smell good,” Oscar murmured, his breath ghosting over my collarbone.
I let out a
