The words hung in the air like a death sentence. I stared at Neil's pale face as his final warning echoed in my mind. His eyes, wide with panic just moments before, suddenly rolled back in his head.

"Neil!" I lunged forward as his body went limp, collapsing back onto the hospital bed. His monitors started blaring with alarms.
