Two agonizing hours dragged by. We debated border treaties and peace contracts in circles, turning the stuffy conference room into an incubator of stale air and rising tempers. Half the Alphas present wanted to keep their neutral pacts with Nightshade. The other half wanted nothing to do with Silas. A tense lull settled over the massive oak table.
