The word comes out of me like a scream. I'm on my feet before I even realize I'm moving, my chair scraping against the floor so loud it makes everyone jump.

"No, Ryker. Absolutely not. I won't let you do this."

But he's already standing too, and there's this calm look on his face that makes my panic worse. Like he's already decided and nothing I say is going to change
