Car Accident
Elara’s POV
My heart pounded fiercely against my ribs as I reached my hand out to Conrad, watching his eyes darken with undeniable, primal lust. But before his fingers could even brush against mine, a sharp, piercing scream shattered the heavy air.
Lilith abruptly collapsed onto the concrete. She dramatically clutched her chest, her face twisting in exaggerated agony as she cried out in absolute despair. "No... my chest..."
Conrad was instantly violently snapped out of his trance. The lust vanished from his eyes, replaced by pure, frantic panic. He lunged forward, scooping both the weeping Lilith and a frightened Ronin tightly into his muscular arms.
"My chest... it hurts so much..." Tears streamed rapidly down Lilith’s cheeks. "Just let me go, Conrad. There are obviously feelings between you and your mate. The biological pull of the mate bond... how can I possibly beat that?"
Conrad tightened his protective grip on her, his jaw clenching. "We have love! It conquers everything!" he declared loudly, delivering a direct, aggressive rejection of the very mate bond he had just succumbed to.
Before he turned to rush her to the pack hospital, he shot me a vicious, hateful glare that chilled my blood.
"Don’t force me to divorce you, Elara!" he snarled, his Alpha tone lashing against me like a physical whip. "If I do that, you’ll have absolutely no money and nowhere to go. So be nice to Lilith and Ronin from now on. Only that will guarantee you a place under my roof!"
He stormed away without a single backward glance. Utterly heartbroken and acutely aware that I lacked the personal funds to drag a powerful Alpha into a lengthy court battle, I retreated silently back to our cold, empty home.
The next morning, the jarring ring of my phone woke me. It was an urgent call from the corporate office regarding my Aurelia Metropolis project. I dragged my exhausted, emotionally drained body to the corporate building. I expected to see my team hard at work. Instead, the heavy oak door to my private office was already wide open.
Lilith was sitting smugly behind my desk. She was waiting entirely alone, looking completely at home in my leather chair.
"What are you doing here?" I demanded, astounded. "Where is everyone?"
She offered a mocking, arrogant smile. "I told them to take the day off. Oh, and I already talked to CEO Jarek. I invited him here to sign the massive contract myself. You’re welcome."
My jaw dropped in disbelief. "You have absolutely no right. This is my office! I am in charge of this project!"
She giggled, her eyes gleaming with dark delight as she soaked in my visible outrage. "Not anymore. I told Conrad that I wanted the Aurelia Metropolis project. And he says I can have it."
I stared at her in pure shock. I had poured my blood, sweat, and countless sleepless nights into this massive contract. I handled the intricate budgets, the endless proposals, and secured the investors. Now, the very project I built from the ground up was being casually handed over as a romantic gift to my husband's manipulative mistress.
"Why the shocked face? You know Conrad would give me anything," Lilith purred, lazily twirling a strand of hair around her finger. "It’s nothing too fancy, but it’ll be a good stepping stone for me to become Conrad’s Luna."
My breathing hitched in my throat. "You want to be Conrad’s Luna?" I cried out, my voice cracking under the crushing weight of her deceit. "But you stood in front of everyone and said you are here simply because of love. You swore to the entire pack that you were not interested in that position!"
Lilith’s lips curled into a twisted, evil smile. "Oh my god, did you actually believe that? That’s just something I say for Conrad! Of course I want to be Luna. Why else would I waste my precious time on him?"
I trembled violently. Hot fury boiled in my veins, making my hands shake. "You don't even love him! You're just bouncing from Alpha to Alpha for power. I'm going straight to Conrad to expose your blatant deceit!"
"Be my guest. See if he believes you," Lilith giggled softly. She gracefully stood up, walking around the desk and stepping uncomfortably close to me. "Conrad has blind faith in me. He would do absolutely anything for me... Let me tell you a little secret. Remember your miscarriage?"
A sudden chill turned my blood to ice. "...What?"
She leaned in close, whispering a toxic secret that would permanently shatter my reality. "When I first gave birth to Ronin, I realized I couldn't keep him. Conrad was the one who suggested bringing the infant here to you as an adopted son. But because you were already happily pregnant with Conrad's child at the time, I expressed deep worry. If a woman already has her own baby, how could she possibly treat my bastard son well?"
My mind froze in sheer, paralyzing horror.
"Conrad said, 'Just get rid of her baby, problem solved,'" Lilith laughed heartily, clearly amused by the utter devastation spreading across my face. "He put wolfsbane in your drink, Elara. And your child slipped right out in a pool of blood. After that, he brought Ronin back as your only child… That’s how far Conrad would go for me!"
My entire world violently collapsed. A wave of profound shock and pure, unadulterated agony tore my very soul apart. I couldn't breathe. The walls of the office felt like they were closing in on me.
"No... NO!" I screamed hysterically, violently shaking my head as hot tears streamed down my face. "This isn't true! Conrad would never coldly murder our own unborn baby! I’m going to ask him!"
I forcefully shoved past her laughing form and bolted blindly out of the corporate building. My vision was completely blurred by a heavy torrent of hot tears. I desperately needed to see him. I needed to shake him, to tell him he was being maliciously used, and to force him to explain this horrific accusation. He couldn't be a murderer. He just couldn't.
I ran wildly and blindly out the glass doors and straight across the busy street. Suddenly, I heard the terrifying, deafening roar of a heavy engine.
I turned my head just in time. A massive delivery truck was speeding directly, purposefully toward me. The grill of the vehicle filled my vision. There was absolutely no time to dodge.
BANG!!!
The brutal, deafening impact sent my body violently flying through the air. I crashed incredibly heavily onto the unforgiving pavement. Agonizing, white-hot pain shot through every single nerve in my body, shattering my bones on impact. My vision instantly blurred as a warm pool of my own blood began rapidly expanding beneath me on the cold, rough concrete.
Vaguely, through the hazy, darkening curtain of imminent death, I saw the truck driver casually step out of the cab. He didn't rush in a panic. He walked slowly, methodically over to my broken, bleeding body.
"He… Help…" I groaned weakly. The bitter copper taste of blood flooded my mouth as tears leaked from the corners of my eyes. "Pl…ease…"
Yet the driver merely looked down at me. His expression was cold and completely indifferent to my suffering. He didn't reach for his phone to call an ambulance. He just calmly turned his head to the side.
"Miss Lilith, what’s next?" he asked in a steady, emotionless voice.
The sharp clicking of heels approached the puddle of blood. Lilith stepped into my fading line of sight. She looked down at my shattered body with a sickeningly sweet, victorious smile plastered across her face.
"Drag her into the woods and bury her," she commanded without a single ounce of hesitation. "Once she’s permanently gone, Conrad will have absolutely no choice but to make me his Luna."
My heart gave a pathetic, weak flutter against my crushed ribs. They were working together. This wasn't a tragic accident. This was cold-blooded murder. My husband's manipulative mistress had deliberately orchestrated my execution.
But my life energy was draining far too quickly. I couldn't fight back. I couldn't even move my fingers to claw at the ground. Trembling slightly against the freezing concrete, I slowly shut my heavy eyes. The chaotic sounds of the street completely faded away, and I slipped entirely into the silent, suffocating darkness.
