A New Beginning

Crouched on the freezing pavement, the biting night wind tore through Vivienne's thin clothes, but the chill settling in her mind was vastly sharper. *So this is why Dominic wanted me out of the villa tonight,* she realized, a bitter, agonizing clarity washing over her. *He already had another woman he desperately wanted to play house with.* The sheer irony gnawed at her frozen fingers as she gathered her scattered belongings. For four years, she had allowed this cold-hearted man to dictate her emotions and measure her self-worth. God, she wanted to slap her past self for being so blindingly foolish.

"So you’re Vivienne Ashcroft, huh?" A haughty voice sliced through the crisp air.

Vivienne didn't look up. Completely ignoring the intrusion, she calmly continued packing her battered suitcase.

Isolde Beaumont marched over, a cocky, victorious smirk plastered across her face. "What are you still doing here? Didn’t Dominic kick you out? Get a move on! Have you absolutely no shame?!"

Unfazed by the arrogant display, Vivienne smoothly zipped up her luggage.

"Hey! Are you deaf?" Isolde snapped, stepping closer to aggressively assert her dominance. "I’m talking to you!"

Vivienne slowly rose to her feet, her joints stiff from the icy ground. She met the woman's furious gaze with absolute calmness. "Sorry, I didn’t quite catch that. All I heard was some crazy bitch barking."

Isolde’s jaw dropped in disbelief. "How dare you call me a bitch?!"

"I didn't." Vivienne gave a cool, dismissive shrug. "But it seems you went ahead and got offended all on your own."

Gripping her heavy luggage firmly, Vivienne stared down the woman deliberately blocking her path. "Now, if you'll excuse me. Nice little doggies should know how to stay out of the way."

"You—!" Isolde stomped her feet in sheer, unadulterated rage.

The sycophantic housekeeper quickly swooped in to hastily placate her new master. "Please, Ms. Beaumont, don't upset yourself over trash like her!" the servant crooned eagerly. "You’ll be the true lady of the house soon. Mr. Blackwood strictly ordered me to prepare the master suite for you. Let me show you inside."

Soothed by the ego stroke, Isolde cast one last disdainful glare at Vivienne before sweeping up the grand stone steps.

Left entirely alone outside the imposing tall building that had been her suffocating cage for four years, a massive wave of irony washed over Vivienne. "Goodbye, Dominic," she whispered quietly. Taking a deep, cleansing breath of the winter air, she walked into the darkness, leaving her past behind without looking back.

Later that evening, Vivienne settled into a modest downtown apartment. The cramped space was a drastic shift from the sprawling extravagance of the luxury villa. Yet, dropping her suitcase onto the worn floorboards, a profound sense of liberation flooded her chest. The invisible chains had snapped. No longer forced to act as the caged bird of the Blackwood family, she sank onto the small couch, pulled out her phone, and deliberately dialed a specific number she had kept strictly blocked for the entirety of her marriage.

The line barely rang twice. "Boss!" a man’s voice exploded through the speaker, vibrating with sheer excitement. "You finally remembered I exist! It's been four damn years!"

Silas Calloway—one of the infamous Four Princes of Veridian Bay. Despite his notorious reputation as a rebellious playboy, he spoke with the profound respect of an eager underling.

"I heard about the divorce," Silas practically shouted. "Congratulations! If the elite circles of Veridian Bay knew the infamous 'Mrs. Punchbag' was actually the ultimate boss they’ve all been desperately hunting for, they'd completely lose their minds! So, what's the plan? Are we doing something huge? I can easily—"

"Hold that thought, Silas," Vivienne interrupted, cutting off his blabbering with a stern tone. "I made a promise to my late Grandpa. I am not returning to that dangerous past life."

"If you truly respect me as your boss," she demanded smoothly, pushing her past aside, "you will keep my identity an absolute secret."

"Understood," Silas replied, his boisterous energy dialing back. "My lips are sealed."

"Good. I need you to investigate a specific matter for me."

Shortly after detailing the task and hanging up the phone, the screen buzzed violently in her palm.

*New Message: Dominic.*

For a brief, traitorous second, her heart instinctively raced. Her thumb hovered over the notification before she tapped it open.

The message was painfully short, utterly devoid of any human emotion:

*[Veridian High Court, 9 am tomorrow.]*

Vivienne stared at the glowing screen. The sheer, clinical coldness of the text instantly killed the lingering butterflies in her stomach. Realizing how blindingly foolish she had been to expect even a shred of warmth from this man, a confident detachment finally settled over her weary bones, replacing her bitter regret.

Matching his detached energy, she simply typed a one-word reply:

*[Ok.]*
