The Alpha's Arrival

***Roman’s POV***

"ROMAN!"

I let out a low, guttural groan, dragging my heavy, exhausted limbs across the sprawling mattress. I grabbed the thick down pillow and pulled it tightly over my head, desperately trying to muffle the noise.

"I swear to the goddess, Roman. If you think you are getting out of leaving the territory today, you have got another thing coming."

Silas’s whining, vibrating voice pierced straight through the solid oak of my bedroom door. The guy was practically vibrating out in the hallway. I could hear the rapid, impatient tapping of his foot against the hardwood floor.

"Since when have you been this damn excited for these stupid, pointless Gathering events?" I grumbled into the high-thread-count sheets. My Beta was entirely too loud for this early in the morning.

"It’s not the Gathering itself, Alpha! It’s the supernatural bar that's in the city over! They have a damn fine singer coming in tonight, and I have been fiercely wanting to go since I was like eighteen!" Silas whined, his voice pressing right up against the wood.

I grabbed my extra pillow and hurled it aggressively at the door. It smacked harmlessly against the frame. This was the very first day in years that my crushing pack workload had actually been cleared. I had every intention of savoring a rare, precious morning of sleeping in.

I had taken over the pack at the terrifyingly young age of fourteen. My parents had tragically died that year, and the fallout was catastrophic. We had lost nearly half of our pack members in the brutal aftermath. But I stepped up. Now, we were the Bloodmoon Pack—the second largest pack in North America, answering only to the Alpha King himself. I wielded absolute, undeniable strength. I prided myself on our formidable power, and I demanded respect. It took blood, sweat, and sleepless nights, but we got there.

Now, at twenty-three years old, I had a suffocatingly tight handle on absolutely everything in my life. I ran my territory with cold, calculating precision. Everything, that is, except figuring out a way to escape these incredibly tedious, mind-numbing social events. And, of course, dealing with the pack's Elder Council constantly hounding me to finally find a Luna.

Frankly, I didn’t need a Luna. I had taken on the entire burden of the pack perfectly on my own. Silas, my Beta, was twenty-one and hadn't found his mate yet, but you didn’t see the damn elders hounding him to settle down.

I had been dragged to every single one of these stupid events since I was thirteen. Ten grueling years. Not a single time did my fated mate show up. And now, the heavy anxiety was creeping in. I was genuinely worried that I would end up being a full decade older than my mate. Silas teased me constantly about it. But apparently, there were a few girls in the neighboring packs who had recently shifted, and the council insisted this Gathering was going to be the one.

"Please, Alpha. Please," Silas begged again, breaking my train of thought.

"Good goddess, Silas. A man needs his sleep. For once in your miserable life, just let me sleep in."

Blessed silence finally fell over the other side of the door. I released a long, deep sigh of pure relief. Finally. I closed my eyes, letting my muscles relax back into the mattress—

"Alpha, we need to speak before you go."

The voice was older, severe, and entirely unwelcome.

"DAMN IT, MARCUS!" I roared.

I threw my heavy duvet to the floor, my bare feet hitting the ground hard as I stomped over to the door. Wearing only a pair of low-slung sweatpants, I grabbed the handle and nearly pulled the heavy door straight off its reinforced hinges as I yanked it open.

Elder Marcus stood there in the hallway. He didn’t look phased at all by my explosive outburst, which only served to irritate me further.

"There is something the council needs to urgently discuss regarding what will happen if you are able to find your Luna this evening," Marcus stated, his tone highly disrespectful, completely crossing the line.

I groaned, leaning against the doorframe, my patience instantly evaporating. "Is it not enough that I am forcing myself to go to this ridiculous thing? Now there is more bureaucratic nonsense if I DO find her? Where the hell was this talk three years ago?"

Marcus cleared his throat, lifting his chin in a brazen display of challenge. "We just want to explicitly remind you that rejection will not be tolerated—"

"REJECTION?"

The word ripped from my throat in a deafening, earth-shattering roar. Marcus actually stumbled a step back.

My inner wolf, Titan, violently surged to the absolute forefront of my mind. The sheer audacity of his statement triggered a blinding, primal rage inside me. I aggressively stepped forward, directly invading Marcus’s personal space. I towered over the older wolf.

I unleashed my Alpha aura. It crashed down onto the hallway like a physical, suffocating weight. The air grew instantly thick and unbreathable, the pressure so intense it felt like the walls were closing in.

"You dare speak to me about rejection?" I snarled, my voice layered with Titan’s dark, vibrating growl. "I will have you know, YOU do not get to dictate anything! The council does not get to decide who my mate is! And you sure as hell do not get to decide WHAT I DO with her when I finally find her!"

Marcus began to physically tremble. The crushing weight of my aura was forcing him down, demanding absolute submission.

"Do NOT ever tell me what will or won’t be tolerated in my own pack," I commanded, the authority ringing through the silent house.

Deeply cowed by the overwhelming pressure, Marcus's knees buckled slightly. He bowed his head low, baring his neck to me in absolute, undeniable submission to his Alpha. He slowly, carefully backed away, before turning and retreating down the stairs.

I pinched the bridge of my nose, drawing in a sharp breath to rein Titan back in. The heavy, oppressive aura slowly dissipated.

"Well, now that you're awake and terrifying, want some breakfast?" Silas’s voice floated from down the hall. I turned to see him standing there, clad in his ridiculous cartoon bear apron, holding a frying pan with a pancake still sizzling in it.

I clicked my tongue, shaking my head. "Yeah, fine. I’m gonna grab a shirt."

Silas let out a booming laugh as I turned back into my room to get ready for the day.

By mid-afternoon, the lingering tension had completely cooled. The sun was bearing down on the packhouse driveway as Silas and I stood outside, arms crossed, deeply debating our travel arrangements.

"What if only one of us actually finds our mate tonight?" Silas asked, tapping his chin thoughtfully. "Then I definitely don’t want to be the awkward third wheel, and I know neither do you."

"But do we really want to bring two separate cars?" I asked, raising a skeptical eyebrow.

"I mean, it's gonna take us, what, four hours to drive there? You can survive without my shining presence for four hours, Alpha," Silas chuckled.

"If we both find our mates, or if we both don’t, taking two cars is going to look idiotic," I pointed out logically.

"Can we just show off a little bit?" Silas grinned, his eyes gleaming with eager excitement. "I mean, between you and me, we are the most eligible werewolf bachelors in the whole damn US, maybe even including Canada. We both own multiple businesses that pull in millions, and we literally have eight exotic cars we are looking at right now."

I couldn't help but chuckle. He was right. Silas might act like an overly energetic party animal most of the time, but the guy was brilliant. Meticulous and highly strategic. Then there were the days he acted like an immature frat boy—like the day he came home with a bright yellow Lamborghini simply because it 'spoke to him' from the dealership window.

"Fine," I finally conceded. "You take your obnoxious Lambo, and I’ll take the Bugatti. If neither of us finds our fated mate, we will go to that supernatural club you want to go to."

"Yes!" Silas did a literal skip, grabbed his keys, and practically dove into the Lamborghini. The engine roared to life with an ear-splitting rev.

Sighing at his endless energy, I grabbed my keys and slid into the sleek, black Bugatti. Silas peeled out of the driveway, and I pulled out smoothly, following his bright yellow trail.

It would be a long, four-hour drive to the Shadowfall Pack territory. I turned on the radio and leaned back into the rich leather seat. As the miles blurred by, the quiet, isolated ride gave me too much time to think. My internal anxiety began to severely flare up. I couldn't stop thinking about what I would actually do if I found her tonight.

*You would take her home immediately and mark her,* Titan stated matter-of-factly in my mind, his voice ringing with absolute certainty.

*Unless she rejects us,* I admitted, the deep-seated fear pooling in my chest.

Titan scoffed loudly, pacing in the back of my mind. *Why would any mate reject us? Look at who we are. Look at our power.*

*Maybe because of our reputation, Titan.*

Titan grumbled defensively. *Your reputation.*

*Ours, Titan. Our reputation is ruthless.* I gripped the steering wheel tighter. *And truthfully, I am not excited about the prospect of terrifying a little thirteen-year-old girl who had the sheer misfortune of being paired with me. I can't just snatch her up, take her home, and mark her.*

Titan chuckled darkly. *What Silas teases you about has really gotten into your head, hasn't it?*

I huffed out a heavy breath and repositioned myself. *I haven’t found her yet, Titan. Ten years of this. That means she’s probably newly shifted. Thirteen to fifteen... maybe seventeen if I’m incredibly lucky. That is a massive, intimidating jump from twenty-three years old.*

*Maybe she just couldn’t make the other events,* I felt him mentally shrug.

*All of them? Since I was thirteen? Please.* I shook my head, staring blankly as Silas aggressively swerved between traffic ahead of me.

Truthfully, I was profoundly worried. What Marcus had pulled this morning, mixed with my own agonizing concerns about the age gap, had set me entirely on edge. In a sudden moment of pure weakness, a dark thought crossed my mind.

*Maybe it's time to just give up on finding the fated mate entirely,* I thought bitterly. *I could just take a chosen mate. Keep the council off our backs. It would be so much easier.*

Titan reacted violently.

A vicious, deafening snarl ripped through my mind. He clawed at the mental barriers between us, his presence furious and imposing.

*You will NOT give up on our mate, Roman!* Titan roared, vehemently refusing to ever abandon hope for our true, fated soulmate. *She is out there. I know it. We wait for her.*

*Sometimes I really hate your unrelenting optimism,* I muttered internally, my jaw clenched. *And the fact that you can read my thoughts. But it might come to that eventually, Titan. Just be prepared.*

I heard a low, stubborn grumble of *never*, but Titan finally retreated to the back of my mind, leaving me alone with the steady hum of the Bugatti’s engine for the remainder of the drive.

We knew the Gathering event officially started at 6:00 PM. Thanks to our late start, it was pushing 6:30 PM by the time we finally crossed into the Shadowfall Pack territory and approached the grand castle venue. Even though we were late, there was still a massive crowd of people lingering outside the colossal stone steps, slowly making their way into the building.

The moment our exotic, roaring engines echoed through the castle parking lot, we instantly turned the heads of the entire crowd. We were an undeniable spectacle. As we rolled to a stop side-by-side, I watched through my tinted windows as girls in the crowd immediately began to puff out their chests, deeply craving the high-status attention. They fixed their hair, practically preening.

Silas, of course, utterly lived for this. He ate up the stares.

I, however, completely and absolutely despised it. I had no love for this kind of shallow attention. I just wanted to get inside, do my obligatory lap around the ballroom, and get the hell out of here.

I killed the engine and popped the door of the Bugatti. My custom Italian leather shoe hit the pavement.

The exact second my foot touched the ground, the air shifted.

Titan didn't just step forward; he violently slammed into the absolute forefront of my mind with a fierce, intensely possessive growl that literally shook my chest.

*She’s here, Roman,* Titan declared urgently, his voice trembling with explosive hope and raw, primal power. *I smell her. Our mate is here.*

I froze. Completely paralyzed.

Stunned, my eyes went wide with absolute, world-shattering shock. All the breath vanished from my lungs in an instant. I slowly turned my head over the sleek roof of my car to look at my Beta. Silas had just stepped out of his Lamborghini. He took one look at my breathless, stunned expression and instantly read the profound realization written all over my face. A massive, knowing grin broke out across his features, and he enthusiastically shot me an encouraging thumbs up.

My heart was hammering against my ribs, deafening in my ears.

*Are you absolutely sure, Titan?* I asked mentally, terrified to believe it.

Titan's response was laced with absolute, undeniable certainty.

*I’m sure. She’s here. Our mate is here. We need to find her.*
