I found Gideon exactly where I expected him to be—leaning over his desk in the office, surrounded by piles of papers, reports, and contracts. He was so focused that he didn't even notice me come in, carrying a tray with lunch.

"If it weren't for me, you'd forget to eat," I said, setting the tray down in an empty spot on the desk.

Gideon lifted his head, blinking a few times like he was coming back
