I licked my lips. “That’s why I want Lucian to stay in his senses,” I said, turning towards Varkas. “If you’ll torture him, he will lose it. And I need him to speak against Garrick in the Primarch Conclave. Even without Zanya, we can win this case.”

He shook his head. “Vespera, if you want, I will spare him for a few days. But what makes you think he will accept his crime?”

“Varkas is
