I slip out of the room quietly, careful not to wake Sloane. She looks peaceful, finally resting after such a rough night, and as much as I want to stay by her side, I have an early meeting. It’s already past seven, and I can’t risk being late. This meeting is an important one and it can’t be rescheduled.

I rake a hand through my hair, feeling very tired from staying up all through the night.
